Meet Carl

carlCarl Wimmer – The Early Years

Carl is the son of hardworking parents from west Salt Lake County. His mother was a nurse by trade but dedicated her time to being a stay-at-home mom and taught Carl the value of caring for those in need. His father, who served the country in the 82nd Airborne before going on to work at the Kennecott mines, instilled in Carl the importance of honesty and love for God and country.

Carl Wimmer – Protecting and Serving

Before being elected to the state legislature, Carl's passion to help others fueled his leadership in protecting Utah’s families with the South Jordan police force. He warned children about the dangers of drugs as part of the D.A.R.E. program. As the community's first K-9 officer and S.W.A.T. Leader, Carl focused on putting violent drug and gang criminals behind bars.

Carl Wimmer – Defending Families and Children

Elected three times to the state House of Representatives, Carl continued protecting families and children by sponsoring and passing Jessica's Law, which increased the penalty for rape of a child and made child killers subject to the death penalty. He's also been a vocal defender of the right-to-life, passing bills to remove loopholes in Utah's anti-abortion laws and protecting doctors and nurses who refuse to perform abortions for religious, moral or ethical reasons.

Carl Wimmer – Standing Up Against the Feds

As a State Representative, Carl has made a stand against the federal government and for state's rights and powers reserved to the people. He was the founding member of the Patrick Henry Caucus, a national organization opposed to the unconstitutional expansion of federal power. He coauthored legislation that began the process to let Utah exercise eminent domain over federally controlled lands. Carl had the foresight to sponsor and pass a bill that paved the way for states to sue President Obama over his unconstitutional health care law with its job-killing taxes and unconstitutional mandate forcing American citizens to buy something they may not want.

Carl Wimmer – Fighting Big Unions

Carl stood up for citizens by securing our right to a secret ballot. It is now a guaranteed right in Utah's constitution to hold elections by secret ballot. Whether it be for President or in matters closer to home, like employee representation, a secret ballot is now our constitutional right.
