Honesty/Government Transparency

Carl is accountable to Utah and will represent Utah’s values in DC, not the other way around. He believes in the importance of open communication with the people of Utah. In the past, Carl has made all of his political dealings open and public, and he will continue to do so. He serves the people of Utah, not special interests or changing political tides.

Smaller Government

Whenever Carl is presented with a bill, he always asks himself, “Is this the proper role of government?” He also applies all of his political decisions to a test of constitutionality, Carl will never vote to expand the size and scope of government. When it comes to government, less is more. He knows that the power of the free market and a respect for personal freedoms has led America to become the greatest and most prosperous nation in history.  Carl will vote for less restrictive government and more personal freedoms.

Defending the Constitution

Carl believes the United States Constitution was divinely inspired and takes very seriously his responsibility to adhere to the intent of our founding fathers.  Our Constitution gives specific and defined powers to the federal government and leaves all other powers to the states and to the people.  Carl will strongly oppose legislation that leads the federal government to act further outside of its specific and defined powers and will vigorously support legislation that eliminates inappropriate federal powers and returns them to the states or to the people.

Family Values

Carl is both pro-life and deeply committed to traditional marriage. He is Chairman of the Utah Family Action Council, which is the largest family-values-based coalition in Utah. Carl staunchly opposes the Supreme Court’s decision to legalize abortion. He has already passed legislation to protect unborn lives here in Utah.  Carl sees Roe v. Wade as one of the worst decisions made by the Supreme Court and will continue to work to see it overturned. He also supports traditional marriage and applauds states that define marriage and civil unions as between a man and a woman.

2nd Amendment

Carl is a staunch defender and promoter of our 2nd Amendment. He believes it protects an individual’s right to bear arms. As a member of law enforcement, he has seen personally the importance of being able to defend yourself and your property as well as the reduction in crime that accompanies citizens exercising their right to bear arms.  As a member of the Patrick Henry Caucus, he has passed legislation to end all federal regulation of firearms that are made within our own state. Carl boasts an “A+” rating from the NRA as a legislator and is endorsed by Gun Owners of America in his run for U.S. Congress. Property ownership is a basic tenet of liberty, and Carl is committed to defending the right to own and defend one’s own property.
