Wimmer Challenges Matheson To Apologize For Stimulus Vote
WIMMER CHALLENGES MATHESON TO APOLOGIZE FOR STIMULUS VOTE
Three-year anniversary of the failed stimulus proves Jim Matheson doesn’t make sense for Utah.
Herriman, UTAH - The Congressional Budget Office’s (CBO) issued a statement admitting failure of the Obama/Matheson Stimulus plan. On the three-year anniversary of this legislation, Republican Carl Wimmer is asking Democrat Jim Matheson for an apology to Utahns for unanswered promises and the unprecedented deficit spending due to his failed stimulus vote.
“Today marks the three-year anniversary of the now estimated $800+ billion Obama/Matheson failed stimulus plan, proving once and for all Jim Matheson doesn't make sense,” said former State Representative Carl Wimmer and candidate for Congress.
Wimmer continued, “The biggest thing Matheson and Obama stimulated was the federal debt, hurting the economy in the long run while sticking the bill to our grandchildren. It's time for Jim Matheson to apologize.”
Last year, the CBO issued a statement admitting what seemed like common sense to most Utahns three years ago – that the Barack Obama and Jim Matheson plan to try and stimulate the economy through increased government spending and federal debt was a bad idea. The CBO went on to express that the Recovery Act boosted the economy less than it predicted in the short run, but the increased federal debt crowded out private investment more than expected and “will reduce output slightly in the long run — by between 0 and 0.2 percent after 2016.”
Wimmer said, “Matheson and Obama's Plan A didn't work. It's been three years and they still haven't put forward a Plan B.”
Wimmer has outlined his plan to create jobs and improve the economy, which includes:
- Making any new investment or loan from a family, friend or angel investor into a company 100% tax deductible, immediately.
- Unlocking our land and natural resources from federal control.
- Requiring a 2/3rds Congressional vote for every new regulation and creating regular sunset dates for new and existing regulations.
- Allowing companies to write off capital expenditures and new investments immediately instead of having to depreciate it over time.
- Permanently allowing Americans to bring the profits made abroad back into the country without additional tax penalties.
- Passing a balanced budget amendment, that includes a 2/3rds vote to raise taxes.
Incumbent Jim Matheson (D), living in Utah's 2nd Congressional District, is jumping districts to challenge Carl Wimmer (R) in the new, open 4th Congressional District, which covers parts of Salt Lake, Utah, Juab, and Sanpete counties.
